Congratulations Class of 2020

We warmly welcome the newest members of our alumni community; the recent graduates of the Class of 2020. Congratulations for all that you have achieved during your time at Loreto Normanhurst, and in particular for your grace, optimism  and leadership  throughout the uncertainty of your final year.

The Class of 2020 was still able to partake in many of the graduation traditions that have long marked a student’s departure from Loreto Normanhurst.  Under this year’s unique circumstances, they also forged some new rituals of their own, including a socially-distanced Guard of Honour. Please enjoy some photos below from the modified Year 12 Graduation celebrations in September.

We wish the Class of 2020 the very best in discerning their next steps as strong Loreto women and members of our international network.

Ex-Students’ Association Morning Tea for Year 12

The Ex-Students’ Association hosts an annual morning tea for Year 12 students, inviting them to join our dynamic alumni community upon their graduation, and communicating all that the Ex-Students’ Association does.

This year’s event was hosted virtually in September by Ex-Students’ Association President, Patsy Shannon, and Committee member, Sam Wegner (Class of ’89).  Despite the changed format, it was a lovely event and well-received by the Class of 2020:

On behalf of all of Year 12, Maria and I would like to say a special thank you for organising Year 12’s virtual morning tea and for speaking to us about the Ex-Students’ Association.

We would particularly like to thank Sam and Patsy for their incredible support and for giving up their time.

It was amazing to hear about the ways that we can remain a part of this incredible Loreto community after graduation. Once a Loreto girl, always a Loreto girl!

Thank you so much again for your time and support. The girls all really enjoyed it.

Prix d’Honneur Award

The Ex-Students’ Association Prix d’Honneur Award was received by 2020 School Captain, Phillipa Studdert, at the Awards and Graduation Ceremony in September.

Dear Ms Patsy Shannon and Ms Sam Wegner,

I’m writing to say how incredibly honoured and privileged I feel to have received the Prix d’Honneur award this year.

Having the opportunity to lead the school has been such an incredible experience for me, which I know I will cherish for the rest of my life. I’m so grateful to have received this award.

Crazy to think that I’m now an ex-student myself! Looking forward to being in touch in the future.

 Kind Regards,

Phillipa

HSC Showcase 2020

The Loreto Normanhurst Learning Team, headed by Ms Kieryn Bateman, Director of Learning, was delighted to be able to welcome those ex-students who attended the virtual HSC Showcase 2020 on the evening of 18 September. The event was attended onsite by Year 12 students and staff, and successfully shared online with our broader community via live stream and a microsite.

The HSC Showcase was officially opened by actress, performer and Normanhurst alumna, Elise McCann (Class of 2002). Elise addressed the Year 12 students, staff, and those watching from home, with inspiring words about being receptive to change and challenge. Recalling her formative experiences singing in the Loreto School Choir, Elise urged the Class of 2020 to celebrate their artistic achievements with pride and to advocate for the Arts and all they represent.

Those who visited the HSC Showcase microsite and live streams would have enjoyed the fruits of the labour and imagination of the Class of 2020. The virtual exhibitions included projects and performances from Aboriginal Studies, Design and Technology, Drama, English Extension 2, History Extension,  Music, Textiles and  Visual Arts. These were as expansive as research papers exploring representations of Mediterranean women in the Bronze Ages,  fashion design championing Australian natural fibres, and a music composition inspired by book characters from childhood.

If you were unable to attend, or would like to revisit the projects and performances on display, please explore the HSC Showcase microsite at the address below. It is currently open.
