contributed by her friend, Jann Brassil (RICKARD, ’54)
Anne Galbraith (Montague, ’54) was called from this life on September 1st. Her funeral service was celebrated on September 10th, which was her 83rd birthday.
Anne, a country girl from Cooma, arrived at Loreto Normanhurst in 1950. A bright, happy girl, Anne quickly settled into boarding life and before long had many friends who were to remain so for the rest of her life.
As is the way in life, our lives diverged as we married and raised our families, but inevitably we would catch up from time to time, sometimes with young children in tow.
Anne’s daughters went to Loreto Kirribilli and one also attended Kincoppal Rose Bay, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Rose Bay. However, Anne worked for many years as Bursar at Monte St Angelo College.
On retirement, Anne returned to her roots at Normanhurst and brought her usual enthusiasm and expertise to the various roles she undertook. She was a member of the Development Committee from 2001, which she remained for some years. She often spoke at Bequest events and Ex-Student and Parent luncheons, bringing everyone up to date with what was happening in the school and the plans for the future. She encouraged those who were able to contribute to the Development Fund and to remember Loreto Normanhurst in their Wills.
Anne was a valued member of the Ex-Students’ Association and presided as President in 2003 and 2004. She also mentored the younger committee members, encouraging future presidents. Over the years Anne enjoyed the Class of ’54 reunions (The 25th, a sleepover weekend at Normanhurst, was memorable), renewing friendships made all those years ago and catching up with our country ex-students. Anne enthusiastically attended the 30th, 40th and 50th luncheons, particularly the 60th when her dear friend Tricia Bevan (Roche, ’54) came from the USA to join the celebration.
Vale Anne, a true, loyal, Loreto alumna.
