Music Festival 2020 – A Bursary Event

Our last edition of the Alumni eNews would have reached you on the eve of our history-making virtual Music Festival 2020. This bursary event, enjoyed by many from couches around Australia and the world, proved a brilliant celebration of the Loreto spirit of community and felicity.

We hope those alumni who joined the live stream on the night enjoyed the sensational individual performances and the House ‘couch choirs.’ We are pleased to announce that the winner of the inaugural People’s Choice Award for the 2020 Music Festival was Mornane House, for their rendition of Warriors by Imagine Dragons. Congratulations also to Kendall House for the Best Conductor and to Barry House, which was awarded both with Best Accompanist and the Spirit Cup.

The theme of this year’s event was Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, in a nod to the ‘greats’ of music and performance. The evening was also a homage to the Loreto pioneers who have come before; to those first Loreto Sisters and their vision for a holistic education for girls that valued creativity and collaboration and to you, our alumni community, many of whom will have sung in school choirs and Music Festivals during your own time at Loreto Normanhurst.

You may like to enjoy some memories of Music Festivals past in the video below!

As you will know, the Music Festival is a dedicated Bursary event each year. Funds raised contribute to the Bursary Welfare Fund, which assists families in necessitous circumstances and continues the legacy of those early Loreto pioneers by ensuring that a Loreto education remains one that is life-changing for all. The Bursary is of particular significance in this year of drought, fires, pandemic and financial hardship for many, especially for many families living rurally.

Our most sincere, heartfelt thanks to those members of the community who donated via the Music Festival event. We are less than $3500 away from our $50,000 Music Festival fundraising goal. If you have not  yet made a donation, but would like to support a young girl with a  Loreto education, please make a  gift via this secure link.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to make a more personal contribution, please make direct contact with Liane Giuliano, Director of Philanthropy and Community Engagement.
